BIOPOZ - THE KEY TO PRECISE BITE REGISTRATION

Bite registration devices are essential for determining the occlusal plane where the chewing surfaces of the upper and lower teeth meet. In the case of edentulous patients, several solutions exist in dental practice. However, until now there has been no adequate solution on the market for implant-supported cases.

BIONIKA Medline Orvostechnikai Kft. has developed a simple, globally unique procedure and device system — based on the concept of dental technician József Rátonyi — to address this critical problem: the precise bite registration for implant-supported prosthetic restorations.

The Latest Generation of Implant Abutments

The BIOPOZ magnetic bite registration heads — a world-first innovation — enable safe and reliable determination of true centric relation, thereby minimising the risk of chipping on ceramic and acrylic surfaces as well as the likelihood of implant screw fracture. The magnetically designed BIOPOZ creates a stable yet easily detachable connection between the implant and the bite registration, providing a comfortable and efficient solution for both the clinician and the patient. The bite registration heads are available for any implant system, at both implant level and multi-unit level.

Bite Registration Heads for Implant Level

The core of the solution is that the implant is fitted with an abutment system composed of mutually compatible components that allow parallelisation of the implant within a wide range. In order to ensure applicability even at large angular deviations (e.g. 60°/90°), a conical geometry is preferred. One approach uses an externally tapered abutment fitted with a magnetic insert in the implant, paired with a cap section connected by a magnet of appropriate strength. The magnetic connection ensures the mating parts are held in a secure yet easily releasable position.

Application of BIOPOZ

The bite registration heads are screwed into the implants. The bite registration caps are placed onto the bite registration heads and secured magnetically. Standard registration materials are used to fill the bite rim. The baseplates and the tracing pin are fixed into the filling material. The patient is asked to bring the occlusal rims together, then gently move the mandible forward and backward and laterally in both directions while the tracing pin rests on the lower plate. The tracing leaves a mark on the lower plate, producing the characteristic Gothic arch tracing. The lower and upper bite rims are then secured to each other so that the tip of the pin aligns with the apex of the Gothic arch. Once the plaster models have been prepared from the impressions, the lower and upper models are assembled in the determined position and mounted in the articulator.

A Wide Range of Bite Registration Heads

Bite registration heads for any implant system are available from BIONIKA. The head design for each system differs only in the implant-specific connecting components — the cap section is identical across all systems. In general, the head design resembles a 60° Multi-Unit conical solution (also available in a 90° configuration), in which a magnet replaces the standard Multi-Unit set screw. This ensures precise positioning of the bite registration cap while also allowing easy removal. The bite registration heads are available in both implant-level (fixed directly into the implant) and Multi-Unit-level (mounted onto Multi-Unit abutments) configurations, in accordance with the prosthetic restoration being used. The range of additional sizes for bite registration heads varies according to the dimensions of the implant system employed.
