Scandrea: the true premium implant system

Over the course of our nearly 30 years of professional experience, we have successfully developed numerous outstanding and innovative products. Among these, I believe our Scandrea Implant System — designed nearly 15 years ago — stands out above the rest. It successfully combines Scandinavian technology with Hungarian creative practicality, and the result has been a genuine success. The outcome is an implant system that fully meets both domestic and international market demands. You may well be wondering what we base this claim on. Our next article is here to answer exactly that question!

Criteria of the premium category

What makes an implant system truly premium? For many users, a well-known brand name combined with a sophisticated marketing campaign is enough to regard a manufacturer's products as among the best in the world — particularly if the brand is associated with Switzerland, for example. In reality, however, this alone is insufficient to classify any product as excellent or premium, especially in the dynamically evolving field of medical devices. The SCANDREA implant system earns its premium designation not through its name or marketing, but through the formal, mechanical, material-structural, and service-related properties that any modern, innovative product and manufacturer must possess.

What are these properties?

First and foremost is the raw material of the implants. Since we are dealing with a material to be implanted in the human body, it must be biocompatible in accordance with the ISO 5832 standard. For this reason, BIONIKA implants are manufactured exclusively from Grade 4 titanium of the highest quality, sourced from suppliers who provide material certificates. The corresponding abutments are manufactured from Grade 5 titanium. Every dentist's and patient's worst fear is implant inflammation and potential rejection. Therefore, in addition to high-quality raw materials, it is essential that our implants are manufactured under strictly sterile conditions, resulting in an ultra-clean surface that is proven to have zero microbial count — thereby reducing the risk of implant rejection.

Furthermore, we have committed to replacing every implant we manufacture that is rejected, without examining warranty-related causes, because we recognise that there are situations where — despite the dentist's expertise — the patient's health condition or an unforeseen illness may prevent the implant from remaining in place. Beyond raw material and hygiene considerations, the mechanical design of the implant surface is equally important. The implant features a spirally micro-grooved surface, which provides excellent load-bearing capacity. The SCANDREA implant body has been designed to follow the anatomical shape of a natural tooth root, and its deep thread pitch delivers excellent primary stability — sufficient to allow immediate loading under appropriately careful conditions.

The abutments connect firmly to the implants, resulting in micro-movement-free force transmission, enabling the creation of stable prosthetic restorations. We recommend placing the implant at or below the cortical level, as this significantly improves the likelihood of long-term osseointegration.

In our view, all of these physical properties — without claiming to be exhaustive — represent only the baseline requirements that any manufacturer must meet in order to use the term "premium" for their product.

Versatile applicability

Another hallmark of premium implant systems is their versatility. The SCANDREA implant system is no exception. As a two-stage implant system, it offers a broad selection of abutments.

A summary of the key design principles of the SCANDREA Implant System

Connection: Conical Connection

A connection type that delivers micro-movement-free force transmission and provides favourable conditions for precise impression-taking. Forces are superimposed deep within the implant body.

Cortical Level

The likelihood of long-term implant retention is significantly improved when the upper margin of the implant is placed at or below the cortical level.

Platform switching

The connecting diameter of the abutment is smaller than the external bone-engaging portion of the implant. Bone tissue can creep up onto the upper margin of the implant.

Spirally micro-grooved surface

The micro-grooved spiral surface functions as a significant load-bearing element. The self-locking thread structure and cycloid thread form ensure a micro-movement-free state and rapid osseointegration.

Anatomical tooth root shape

Thanks to the taper of the implant thread, its deep pitch, self-locking and self-tapping design, the implant has a bone-condensing effect and — with appropriate care — can be immediately loaded.

Rounded implant apex

Facilitates minor directional adjustments during implant placement.

Outstanding primary stability

Whether screw-retained, cemented, or removable prosthetic restorations are required, we can provide suitable abutments for every solution. Single-tooth restorations, four-implant bridge prostheses, and full-arch rehabilitations are all achievable with the SCANDREA implant system.

As a cost-effective solution, full-arch rehabilitation can be achieved with as few as two implants, although in this case the implants provide anchorage only; for more comprehensive cases, we more confidently recommend the All-on-4 or All-on-6 prosthetic approaches using four or six implants.

As a cost-effective solution, full-arch rehabilitation can be achieved with as few as two implants, although in this case the implants serve only as anchorage. For more comprehensive cases, we recommend the Optimum or Safe concepts based on four or six implants, which enable the fabrication of screw-retained partial prostheses or complete dentures.

Regardless of the prosthetic mechanism chosen by the patient, it can be implemented with SCANDREA implants. We offer our implants in a wide range of diameters and lengths, covering the vast majority of clinical situations encountered in practice. Custom dimensions outside the standard range can also be supplied on request. SCANDREA+ implants are available in a raised-contour variant, which offers the advantage of an increased thread depth and consequently enhanced primary stability.

Summary

The BIONIKA SCANDREA Implant System is a modern medical device that meets today's clinical demands and holds its own in the international marketplace. Engineered with precision and developed with medical expertise, it is capable of satisfying the highest professional standards — making it a solution we confidently recommend to dentists and patients alike.
